We design homes, workplaces and public rooms around daylight, honest materials and the way people live.

(01) Studio

We design quiet, durable buildings and rooms for the people who live and work in them. Each project starts with light, proportion and honest materials, and ends in places made to grow better with age. Nothing added for effect, nothing left unresolved.

(04) Process

How a project unfolds

Four stages, one team from first visit to handover. Most homes take fourteen to twenty months; we tell you early where the time goes.

  1. 01 Listening

We walk the site with you at different hours, then agree a written brief and an honest budget before a single line is drawn.

  2. 02 Sketch

Massing studies, light studies across the seasons and card models at 1:50, so you can see the rooms before you commit to them.

Architectural interior shown as reference for the sketch stage
  3. 03 Drawing

Technical drawings down to the joinery, the permit application with the municipality, and tenders to craftsmen we have built with before.

  4. 04 Building

Weekly site meetings, decisions logged within a day, and supervision through to handover and the one-year inspection.

What clients say

We asked for a hotel that felt like the dunes outside. Ostra kept the 1920s timber frame, added nine rooms, and finished two weeks before the Easter season.

Mette Lund Owner, Hotel Grenen Klit, Skagen

They redesigned our east galleries without closing the museum for a single day. Visitor numbers in the new rooms are up a third, and our conservators finally have proper daylight control.

Jonas Vestergaard Director, Aarhus Museum of Craft

Our house in Hornbæk is 112 square metres. Ostra moved the stairs, lowered one window by forty centimetres, and now we see the Sound from the kitchen table.
